The Cliff House Inn, six miles south of Jasper on Scenic Highway 7, has long been a favorite destination for Theresa and me. We drop in for a meal almost every time we travel to Branson, Harrison or Jasper.

This unique eatery offers incredible views of the Arkansas Grand Canyon and some of the best downhome cooking in the Ozarks. We want to share what makes the Cliff House so special, so you, too, can enjoy the delicious food and unforgettable vistas that keep us coming back.

Beginnings

The story of the Cliff House Inn began in the early 1960s when Kenneth and Fern Carter took a Sunday drive along Highway 7. When Kenneth stopped the truck to peer through the trees overlooking the majestic valley now known as the Arkansas Grand Canyon, he declared he would build a motel right there. The vision became a reality in 1967 when the Cliff House Inn opened as a small five-room motel and gift shop. Through the decades, ownership changed hands, but the heart of the Cliff House Inn remains the same—offering a true taste of the Ozarks and sharing the beauty of the region with all who visit.

Savoring the Best of Ozark Cuisine

While the view alone is worth the trip, the real star at the Cliff House Inn is the food. From classic Southern breakfasts to savory entrees and unforgettable desserts, every meal is prepared with love and local flavor.

Start your morning with a hearty breakfast that fuels your day of exploring the scenic Ozarks. The Two Egg Platter, served with homemade biscuits and gravy and your choice of country ham, bacon or sausage, offers a comforting combination of flavors. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Sweet Buttery Breakfast Waffle Sandwich, with its blend of cheddar cheese, hot pepper bacon jam and a sausage patty sandwiched between vanilla waffles, offers a unique twist on breakfast.

For something truly Southern, the Fried Hot Water Cornbread—lightly seasoned with jalapeño peppers and onions and topped with powdered sugar—brings a spicy-sweet kick to your morning. And if you’re craving a savory staple, the Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast, served with biscuits, gravy and eggs, is the perfect stick-to-your-ribs meal.

Lunch and Dinner: A Homestyle Feast

Lunch and dinner at the Cliff House Inn feature a variety of mouthwatering dishes, from hearty burgers and country ham to flavorful seafood and salads. A favorite among locals and visitors alike is the Arkansas Fried Catfish Platter, a true Ozark delight. Served with cilantro coleslaw, pinto beans, and homemade tartar sauce, this U.S. farm-raised catfish dish is perfect for a taste of Arkansas on a plate.

For those with a craving for a burger, the Angus Razorback Burger does not disappoint. Dressed with mayo, sautéed onions and topped with smoked pork and BBQ sauce, it’s served on a King’s Hawaiian bun that perfectly complements the bold flavors. If you’re after something with a little Cajun flair, the Shrimp Po-Boy delivers with fried or grilled shrimp, homemade remoulade sauce and dill pickles, all piled onto fresh Gambinos’ New Orleans Bakery bread.

Vegetarians and lighter eaters will find plenty of options, too, like the Grilled Portabello Mushroom served with orzo and sesame-grilled green beans. This dish is hearty enough to satisfy without being too heavy, showcasing the variety of flavors and textures that the kitchen can create.

Dessert: A Slice of Arkansas History

No visit to the Cliff House Inn would be complete without indulging in a slice of Company’s Comin’ Pie, the official state pie of Arkansas. With a meringue crust made from pecans and crackers, this signature dessert is filled with real whipped cream and pineapple—a sweet, creamy and crunchy treat that’s been delighting diners for decades.

Other dessert offerings include the Classic Brown Butter Cake, a rich and indulgent cake topped with chocolate, caramel sauce, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Whether you choose the Company’s Comin’ Pie or opt for the Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie, the sweet endings at the Cliff House Inn are sure to leave a lasting impression.

A Dining Experience Worth the Drive

Beyond the food, what truly sets the Cliff House Inn apart is its cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The dining room, with large windows framing the breathtaking views of the Arkansas Grand Canyon, offers a serene setting for any meal. The location itself, perched on the side of a mountain, feels like a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s no wonder that diners often stay long after their plates are cleared, simply soaking in the view and the peaceful ambiance.
