OK, y’all, the next time you’re over near Morrilton in Conway County, you really should plan a visit to this one-of-a-kind eatery on Highway 9 just south of Center Ridge. Locals pack the Bucket List Cafe for breakfast and lunch Wednesday through Sunday and for dinner Friday and Saturday (closed Monday and Tuesday). And the reason is really quite simple. The friendly folks at the Bucket List serve huge portions of delicious food at reasonable prices, including specialties found nowhere else.
What to Order
The menu might surprise you (in a good way) for a small country establishment seating 32. Breakfast selections include regular morning fare like omelets, biscuits and gravy, and fried bologna, plus the Bucket List’s own hungry-man pile-ups like the Sloppy Sherryl (hash browns, biscuits, eggs and choice of ham, bacon, breakfast sausage, Italian sausage or bologna stacked and smothered with gravy) and the 55 Gallon Lid Pancake (it really is as big as the top of a 55-gallon drum; if you can eat it in an hour, it’s free).
Lunch and dinner selections at the Bucket List Cafe are even more extensive, with a variety of home-style plate lunches (meatloaf, smoked ham, pulled pork barbecue, pork chops, ribs, chicken spaghetti, hamburger steak, and more), nachos, burgers, dogs, salads and sides. Favorites include a variety of items piled high with delicious local ingredients, like the monstrous Reuben with homemade kraut and the Salty Sam (first photo), a hoagie loaded with locally made Italian sausage, three cheeses and grilled onions. Their hamburgers are some of the best you’ll find in Arkansas.
Decadent Desserts
It won’t be easy, but leave room for some Bucket List desserts, too, including Fried Twinkies and a variety of homemade pies. Highly recommended (unless you’re watching your weight or are diabetic): Fried Filokie With Some Nokie, a battered, fried chocolate-chip cookie cake with a molten chocolate center, smothered in ice cream, caramel and chocolate syrup.
