Next time you’re in Stuttgart looking for a good place to eat, let me recommend The Country Gossip. This quaint establishment on Main Street serves some of the best food on the Grand Prairie, including great soups, sandwiches, salads and more. Four generations have worked in the business, a favorite of Stuttgart regulars and out-of-town duck hunters.
A friend who knows I love a great pimento cheese sandwich recommended I drop in. “Theirs is the best,” she said. And she was right. The creamy, homemade spread was piled high between slices of toast with mayo and lettuce, just like Mom used to make. With a bowl of mac-and-tomato soup on the side, and a big cornbread muffin, it was too much to eat in one sitting.
Additional specials are posted daily, including scrumptious made-from-scratch soups like cheesy potato and chicken noodle, and legendary Country Gossip entrées like chicken spaghetti and pinto beans with ham and cornbread.
For a real treat that’s surprisingly hard to come by in the nation’s leading rice-producing state, ask when the Dessert of the Day will be their perfect, baked, cinnamon-and-sugar-crusted rice pudding. It doesn’t get any better.
